hey there, need some advise

Well im having a friends computer over tonight to wipe it clean of everything. Viruses, Unused files, and so on.

I think it has got so many problems with it, like safe mode is naffed up,

my understandings about the computer is that it is very old and they think old is bad, but im trying to tell them that its the other way around.

Yeah so on to the question, is there an easier way to wipe the hard-drive and everything and do a fresh install of windows? or do i have to formatt?

I think she asked me to make it completely virus fee aswell.
