re: hard drive help
I've just got a new PC, 80gb SATA hard drive.
I figured I was reasonably knowledgeable about PCs, but I was stumped when I found the PC had 2 x 35gb hard drives. Drive C is NTFS, 34.5gb Drive D is FAT32, 35gb I rang because I couldn't work out how 2 x 35gb drives added up to 80gb. I was told that was because (a) it is standard practice to install hard drives in smaller amounts, and (b) that "modern PCs" never register up to 80gb hard drive, they will never register more than 70gb total hard drive even though there is allegedly 80gb there. ![]() Now whack my head and call me a dipstick, but is what I have been told right? The reason I upgraded was because the PC I had had 2x40gb hard drives and I wanted a 80gb hard drive with space internally to upgrade with a further 80gb, but with having two hard drives installed, there is little or no space to add further drives internally. The ad definitely says 1 x 80gb hard drive. The PC spec is here: ebuyer.com - Desktop PCs, Servers » Home PCs » AMD - Sempron » Product details Any help a.s.a.p. would be much appreciated. |

You've been conned!...I would suggest you return it and get your money back!! If you have any problems take it up with Trading Standards.
I - probably like many others - have a 250gb hard drive, plus an 80gb and a 30gb...my PC recognises all of them!! Sorry matey, but there is no way those hard drives add up to 80gb...whoever told you that "modern PC's" only recognise 70gb are talking out their a*se! ![]() I have heard of so many bad reports about ebuyer, that I stay well clear of them...I would suggest you do the same. ![]() |

Thanks, that's just what I thought too. My current PC has a C drive of 40gb with a G drive (external) of 160gb and a S (internal) of 120gb, both the G and the S I have added myself. That's why what Ebuyer were telling me on the phone didn't make any sense. If I had wanted 2 x 40gb drives, I would have just slapped another one on the PC I have already.
I figured maybe it was because I wouldn't class myself as an expert so I thought I had better ask around someone who knows a bit more than me. Strangely enough, Ebuyer were recommended to me by a bloke I know who works at PC World. Maybe he hopes after this, it will make PC World look good ![]() |

Keep in mind, it might only be one hard drive partitioned, not 2 hard drives... But that only adds up to 70.
