Unable to view YouTube and several sites - Computer Forum

Hi all, first post and probably a pretty bone question for some of you guys. Not knowing much ( infact very little ) about computers, I'm stuck as to why I can't view any of the videos on Youtube.com and some sites where it prompts me to install an updaterd flash player. I've alreay downloaded the flash player it prompts me to, so,I'm stuck....
When trying Youtube.com, the site says,
"Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player."
Help !

What browser are you using?

IE 7 .Somone suggested getting Firefox.I did that and got no difference so went back to IE. The same person also said to check that active scripting was enabled in the security settings.This has also been checked.
