Re: Wireless router
Hi the cables that come with the router do not seem correct. As I said I am a comp virgin. I have a phone point which serves the pc nearby. The cable comes from this and into the modem but the only cable coming out is a USB one how does this connect to the router. All this seems strange to me - I have cables that are a the small one that goes into a phone handset and the usb one. The ports on the router are all bigger.... Possibly thinking of packing up the computer and getting the golf clubs out!!
Can some one try and help in very simple laymans terms. |

Re: Wireless router
I'm not sure which router you mean but they both should be similar.
If the router you have is a modem router you shouldn't need the router that came when you ordered broadband . It should be set up in an order like this. 1 - there should be a port on the back of the router that looks like a modem port, a cable should have come with the router with two modem connectors one end should plug into the router and the other into the microfilter (the splitter that came with broadband which splits a phone socket into a ordinary telephone port and an ADSL port, it should be labeled) 2 - the router should have come with an install cd which should help you with the rest. 3 - the back of the router should have upto four ports slightly wider than the modem port this is an ethernet port which you can connect to your computers ethernet port for wired broadband, If the setup works your laptop should come up with a message saying 'wireless network detected' and you can connect If you need any more help please ask also you should look at encryption If you need more help could you let me know which router you use |
