Copying to Disc

In windows XP I recently copied my Outlook Express Address Book to a CD. It appears as an Address Book File WAB. However when attempting to open it via the CD I get the message: "The Address Book file has been locked by another application. Please close the other application and try again later". The same thing happens on my work computer. Any ideas?

Re: Copying to Disc

By placing your Outlook Express Address Book on a CD, you have officially made it "Read-Only." That is, you have locked the file so no programs can write data to it. That doesn't sound like a bad thing when you think about it. You only really need to read data from the address book file, but when it comes time to add a new contact, the file cannot be written to.

So, the program requires the file to be capable of being read and written to. Obviously a CD can't do this, so you'll have to move it to another location. You could move it to My Documents for example and open it from there. That way, the program will have full access rights.

Re: Copying to Disc

In your program you are opening the address book file with, maby windows address book? Go to the 'File' menu and see if there is an option like 'Import' or somthing like that. You then should be able to select the cd drive and then import the .wab file.

It will then copy the file into its own data file.
