Can't open picture files

I have a hp pavillion f1523 and have just recently restored it to try and make it run faster. I saved all of my files onto a packard bell dvd+rw before the system restore and now can't open the most important pictures which are of my daughter from this year. All other photo files open apart from this one in my pictures. But on my daughter's picture file it shows empty files and i'm desperate to recover them. Any advice on how to gett them back? Thank you.

Re: Can't open picture files

Hi Laure06, welcome to itsallPC

It is not unusual for errors to occur while writing, resulting in data loss. The frequency of problems increases with the age of the drive and the cheapness of the media.

Copy the entire content of the DVD back to Hard Disk. If you cannot access the data still, I'm afraid it's gone.

To prevent this sort of thing in the future, it's a good idea to use burning software like Ahead Nero, which has a function to validate the written files. It's also good back up practise to keep at least two copies of any valuable data, in the event that one copy is corrupt or destroyed.

Another way to keep your data safe is to install a second hard drive in your pc and keep everything on there you wouldnt want to lose.

This still leaves you completely at the mercy of things like PSU malfunction, power surges and other things which can take out both HDDs at once.

Or even computer theft.. I can't see you recovering too much data from that one.

Actually It works out at around £1950 per year, which is 7.5 hours per week (Average)

But there are tips ontop, and over Christmas etc there are usually loads of shifts.
