INTERNET WIRES!

I have a computer that has an internet cable but the cable i have wont fit into the socket on the computer. another computer i have uses is fine.....teh other computer is older and the socket looks like a phone cable for dial up - is there any way that another cable can be bought that will have a thinner end to go in the computer and a fatter end that will go into the internet connection point?

Re: INTERNET WIRES!

Does the port look like:

Or:

Note the number of pins...

That top would be an ethernet port. It is most commonly used for networking or broadband internet connections.

The bottom one is a standard RJ-11 port used with phones and dialup services.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say you are missing a LAN controller. In order to use the modem, unless it has USB capability, you will need an ethernet controller. Luckily they aren't expensive.
