Re: My computer wont turn on unless heated!!!!
A flashing LED on a power supply almost always means there isn't enough power getting all components of yours system. Either you have a faulty power supply or your system has too much equipment for that supply to handle. Here are a few troubleshooting steps.
I don't know what model number you have so please post back with that. As well as with the color of the flashing light. This troubleshoot is assuming that the color is Amber. First make sure you do this when the system is cold. Although I have never run into the problem of a cold startup problem, this will ensure the troubleshooting. Unplug the power. Remember whenever touching internal computer components to touch the metal part of your computer case to discharge any static electricity build up. Now go ahead and disconnect all CD drives and floppy drive if you have it. Also anything on PCI, PCI express, or AGP slots, go ahead and disconnect. Make sure you did not disconnect the power supply from the hard drive. Plug the power cable back into the power supply and attempt a power-up. If you do get a bootup then you know that your powersupply does not give out enough power to handle your system. The model that you gave me on that supply is a 300 watt supply which should handle most mid-range computing applications. If you have made any upgrades at all recently please let me know. If that is the case, you should spend about $60 on a new supply that has a power of atleast 400 watts. If this did not work: There are about eight other issues that this could be. I have no idea what model you're running or what color the light is so I was just shooting from the hip with the most common problem on a PC. Let me know what happens |

Re: My computer wont turn on unless heated!!!!
The light is flashing green on the rear of the power supply and constant green when it is ok , when it is flashing the power light around the on switch wont come on at all the pc is a hp pavilion t340. uk , 2.6 ghz pentium 4 1024 ddr ram 80 gig hard drive there have been no hardware changes in the last 12 months or any new software installed for the last month or two , I am pretty certain it will be the power supply that is going faulty .

Re: My computer wont turn on unless heated!!!!
First of all, the only possible thing I can think of that would make you have to put a hairdryer up to a powersupply to get it running would be a fan being out on the supply. Putting the hair dryer there will cause the fan to spin if it was not. A power supply is made not to run if the fan gets jammed, so before going through the next 20 minute troubleshooting site that I put here you might want to verify that the fan is infact spinning. If it is, continue on to the next part.
When I say verify that it is spinning, make sure to check that it does before you put the hairdryer up to it. During the time that the light is flashing. Then try putting the hairdryer up to the fan with the cold button pushed down so you arent overheating your system anymore ![]() If that wasn't it here is the troubleshooting for your problem. The following link will take you to HP technical support for the issue "Power Faulty: Power supply light on or flashes" http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...n&lang=en#N535 Run through this troubleshooting guide. It will take you about 20 minutes. If you find that the power supply is faulty I would recommend buying a new power supply from http://www.recycledgoods.com/Product...roductID=19606ÂÂ! It's not a HP certified reseller I don't think, but they do have a reasonable price. |

Re: My computer wont turn on unless heated!!!!
Can I just ask.... Do you dry your computer with a hairdryer regularly?
Can you come round and give mine a quick blow dry?
