Need local listings for free? Look here!

I think this site has alot of potential! Great for publicity if you provide ANY kind of computer service.

http://www.tech-checkup.com

I just passed the entry test and got my listing up. I think with a few more months and some good advertising this place could be a hit.

Check it out. It's for the US only right now.

Looks cool.

Lets hope the standard of tech support stays high. I can think of a number of reasons why this idea could cause more problems than it solves if not run properly...

Re: Need local listings for free? Look here!

The entry quiz was fairly easy, anybody with A+ Cert. could pass it (I'm not even A+ Cert and passed, but I study independently). I'm going to try and help out with newer/harder questions and such. Hopefully the fact that people can call your house and contact you will keep the less dedicated people from registering, and only the serious people who want to help out will join. But it's all fairly new, only a month old or so I believe.

Looking around I see alot of people are asking for $100USD/hour. Personally I think that's kind of ridiculous, you can take the PC to a store and get it fixed cheaper. Maybe these guys have alot to offer I'm not sure, but that seems like a pretty steep price.

Re: Need local listings for free? Look here!

Yeah, that quiz was way to easy to prove anything.

One of the questions bothered me though; this one:

Quote:
25: You are a network technician assigned to troubleshoot problems with your company's enterprise network Windows 2000 environment. You have just been informed that a user's computer running Windows XP Professional has crashed. Upon inspection you notice that this computer will begin to load but the GUI no longer will come up. It will not load past the POST. What utility can you use to retrieve the files off this computer before the hard drive is formatted and a new image put back on?
The scenario explains that "this computer will begin to load but the GUI no longer will come up" then right after "It will not load past the POST.". All the questions are related to software. It seems as though whoever created this question doesn't actually know what POST means.

Re: Need local listings for free? Look here!

One of the multiple choice answers was "flux capacitor", they really need not make it so obvious which answers are right and wrong. But I talked to someone who has some kind of authority there, and he mentioned they are trying to make a better quiz with random questions so people can't share the answers. I might take some of my PC Maintenance tests and look for the more advanced questions to submit.

At this point though, there's no assurance of any skill.

The level of the questions was what I consider to be intermediate, definitely not advanced and no-where near professional.

seems like a great idea. i agree with syphus that it could cause more problems than it solves if not run properly.but for those of us that compete with big business it looks to be a god send.

How to share my host pc with 10 users

The Netcomputer is a Network-based computing terminal and incorporates our proprietary server technologies on our proprietary SoC (System on Chip) embedded chip with unique algorithms. This allows multiple users to share the computing resources of a single computer's CPU, Memory, HDD, etc.
A max of ten thin client stations can be attached to one host computer (Up to 30 on in Windows 2000 / 2003 server) . A total of eleven users including the server can enjoy individual computing access independently and securely. This Microstation is optimal for use in an office, hospital, home, call center, training center, computer lab, internet cafe, and other various sites.
