harddrive VS Graphics card problem

Hello, praying someone can help us

Set Up is

Motherboard : Biostar K8NHA Grand V1.2
Graphics Sparkle GForce 6600 256mb
Athlon Sempron 3000
Hard Drive Maxtor Diamond 200G
Memory 1 Gb DDR 400
PSU 500MW

Just bought new Harddrive (the 200gb above) and suddenly my Graphics card has problems (white lines across screen etc when playing games).

Anyone know why?

worked perfectly with a 120G hard drive

Re: harddrive VS Graphics card problem

Hi leedsfan, welcome to itsallPC

From memory, the K8NHA grand is an nForce 3 chipset motherboard, meaning you have AGP. If you have a GeForce 6600 GT, it will require a molex power connector (Vanilla 6600s do not usually), unlike the PCI Express version that can draw sufficient power from the slot. I'm making this assumption since you're not particularly precise with your hardware specifications.

If this is so, double check that you didn't dislodge the molex power connector from your graphics cared when installing the new Hard Disk Drive. If your Hard Disk Drive and graphics card are sharing a power cable, plug them into different cables if possible. If this is not so, post back.

Re: harddrive VS Graphics card problem

Cheers.

Graphic card physically seems fine. When i increase the monitors refresh rate, the white bars disappear but the computer slows down and the game eventually crashes.

If I replace the new hard drive with my old 60 gig one, the games work fine and keeps on working.

Need help!!!

I have a 500w PSU so I cant believe its not powerful enough.

Did you read what I advised and check? You're not giving me a clear indication of that.

Re: harddrive VS Graphics card problem

Well i thought you would assume that i had. Everything seems fine. Just to make sure, i checked the molex connector and its fine and cables are not being shared.

Sorry if i seem abrupt but i've forked out a lot of money for the damn hard drive and thought it would be easy to fit, one week later and i'm still at a loss!!

I appreciate your help though.

Re: harddrive VS Graphics card problem

This sounds rather odd to me...a hard disk drive shouldn't be able to cause this issue.

Is there an intake fan situated in the front of your case, in front of the HDD?
