File Extension Problems

I have recently loaded a new program on to my computer for making business cards but unfortunately this has given me quite a headache. After installation the program works very well but after I had saved my work in my documents , I was unable to open it again withpout going back in to the program first because my computer did not recognise the file extension.
The company had a couple of attempts to help but unfortunately it got worse.
Whilst trying to rectify the problem, I have allotted the file extension for Adobe Photoshop Elements to the .bcp file extension and can't get rid of it.
This means that not only have I no file extension for this program but every time I save anything in the program I can't open it again.
There must be an easy way to remove file extensions but I don't know what it is ...........H E L P ! ! !

Re: File Extension Problems

Is it not possible to re-open the document you're having trouble with from the program itself, say, from the File, Open menu option?

You can unregister the extention from photoshop through the options (I forget where exactly, but I'm guessing Tools, Options or File, Options, or Tool, Preferences or Settings, something like that; it should be easy enough to find), which will clear any association. If the program you're using is smart, it would have created it's own class for associations, and things would be back to normal.

If that's all too complicated, try right clicking, and selecting Open With, and choosing the program.

Re: File Extension Problems

Thanks Syphus. I have managed to disassociate the Photoshop file extension and can open the files by opening them in the program. However I can't right click and select 'Open with' because the file extension is not in the 'Open with' folder.
Not to worry, at least I can open the file from within the folder now but it would be much erasier if it recognised the file extension.
Thanks again for your help.
