Re: why cant i get my pc to turn off ?

Hi mike, welcome to itsallPC

You have obviously not wired the Front Panel correctly (if at all). The Front Panel is two rows of pins, usually located on the lower right of the motherboard. The Reset Button, Power Button, HDD LED, Power LED and speaker should be attached here.

Often, the front panel is colour coded or has markings like HD-LED, RESET etc, but you will probably need to consult your motherboard manual. Be aware that LEDs are polarised, that is to say, they must be connected the correct way around. usually, one pin will have a +, which corresponds to the coloured wire, as opposed to the white one).

Often, it will go something like this:
  • Two or Three green pins for Power LED (PLED). If the case front panel has two pins, connect them to pin 1 and 3. Green wire connects to the +.
  • Two red pins for the HDD LED. Read wire connects to the +.
  • Two blue pins for the Reset (RST) button.
  • Two black pins for the Power (PWR) button.
  • Four brown/orange pins for the speaker.

Some motherboard/case manufacturers break this convention however.

I had an old PC once, when it said that "It is now safe to turn of your computer" we just switched it off at the plug socket?
