Rate your local PC store.

Sometimes we cannot help you here at itsallpc, because your issue is too difficult to diagnose from remote, or technical expertise is required for service or maintenance.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of unprofessional and technically unsound technicians to be found in PC stores out there. We’d like to be able to point our users in the right direction, so if you’ve visited a PC store lately, please post here and tell us:
 • Name of the store
 • Where the store is located (Country, City, District)
 • The level of technician expertise available
 • The problem you had and if it was solved, partially solved or unsolved
 • How you felt about the service
 • Rate your experience out of 10

Hopefully we can build up a reference for good quality PC repair centres, which betters your chance of good technical support.

3000rpm
16a West Port
Dundee
DD1 5EP

10/10

I have found the technicians to be more than helpful when it comes to looking for advice

i have also found them to be very competative with pricing, and will go out their way to help you find something, even if they do not stock it themselves.

brilliant technicians and fantastic shop!!

highly recommended!

All local stores are far too expensive, or you can go to PC W*rld

I have just purchased a pc from a company called Yuneque

4600+ Dual Core with Twin 7800GT's... :P

Unfortunately, that's bad for the PC industry.

Local stores are populated by real humans who have some level of interest in the matter, as opposed to programs, scripts and warehouse dispatch personell. The reason they're expensive is because too few people patronize them.

Buying systems from internet companies encourages poor point of sale support across the board, and results in money leaving the local economy.

Re: Rate your local PC store.

I wanna say that PC-World is crap.. Not only a year or so ago did i take my laptop into them to have a look at because it wasnt starting up only getting to Windows
loading page before freezing but they charge me £50 straight up with or without fixing it. So i pay hopeful that these guys are pro but no they are as useful as 4 blown out tyres on a 4x4.. In the end i had to just dump it and buy a new one which i then decided on a P.C definatly one of the best decisions ever made. Who else has used PC-World cust service and been let down!!!

Hi, I was just browsing and just dont understand statements like these. There are a lot of local stores out there doing an amazing job compared to some of the rubbish that the big companies like PC World are puting out, so its harsh to group them all based on one bad experience. Im near Stoke On Trent and both myself and a lot of my friends have consistently been very satisfied by our local company 'buyit247.com'. Prices are good, but my PC was faulty, but i returned it and the technical help was excellent over phone. Product was collected, fixed and returned in days. They really do care personally! so ill do my bit and recommend them.

Sorry if it seems im ranting a bit.

Large OEMs are capable of cutting costs significantly by...
 • Assembling parts in countries where they only have to pay 50c a day or something like that
 • Outsourcing tech support to India. I think we all know how much fun it is to talk to a guy who claims in a thick Calcutta accent that his name is Jeff, and then goes on to prove he's just reading from a script
 • Getting special deals with manufacturers like Foxconn, to supply purpose designed motherboards by mass volume
 • prototyping and extensively testing builds to reduce their warranty claim rate

The last thing is what makes it so difficult for local PC stores to compete. In order to survive on their 10-15% mark-ups, they have to keep low stock levels, and move quickly with their suppliers. They certainly don't have the resources to test their builds properly. But, you do get
 • Real advice and options that will steer people to better quality
 • Local tech support
 • New technology, not 2 year old stocks
 • More honesty

Unfortunately, local PC stores don't make enough money to employ real expert, and tend to be understaffed and inefficient, and can be very badly run. Furthermore, in the bid war at the front of PC sales, PC store technicians have to really lower their standards and sell cheaper hardware or lesser quality. What they need is support; for people to recognise that buying a Dell is actually really bad for the PC industry. To recognise that they're hanging on tooth and nail, and that for the most part, it's a sense of duty to the public that keeps them from throwing in the towel.

People only buy PC World machines out of ignorance.

PC World

OK seen as wel seem to be on the subject of PC world I'd like to share an experience that a friend of mine had with them, or rather their aftersales/repair staff.

He bought a computer from their Carlisle store not so long ago (Advent I think) and decided to test their knowledge by removing the fuse from the plug and taking the computer back to them under the premiss it wasn't working. A statement which was technically true. After much head stratching and frustration by the PC World staff he was rang up and told that it was un repairable!!!!

Now I dont claim to be upto date in the field of micro electronics but even
I feel that this situation took the "P" a bit.

Do PC world actually employ people who are knowedgable or would they be better employing the Chimpanzee's from their local zoo?

PC World. "Perfectly Cr*p"

Smirnoff.

Good advice by phone, also lots of stock of proper pc gear, not like PC W@rld
and at a very good price, also have a shop in Watford so you can collect on the same day. Also do repairs ....10/10

There are plenty of ways to speak against PC World, other than use a highly highly dubious story like that...

I can only tell you what I've been told myself. Wether or not it is dubious, true, false or what ever is a matter of personal interpretation. Personally I have never used PC World and as such cannot express my views, either good or bad, about the company, its staff or its practices. Once again I can only reiterate what I've been told.

i have found pcworld very confusing and with there hard to understand packeges that come with any produce you buy from there, they are very confusing, other than that PCworld has got some very nice laptop and desktops for sale, nice big screens. went there yesterday and see them.
I actully scared myself stepping into one of there stores.

Pimped Up Cases

My local computer shop is pimped up cases
The service is great, they are really friendly and the prices are low enough to keep me going back! their web site is also very good with items being recieved within 48 hours (I have only ordered twice...)

The only downside is that I cant decide what custom paint work to get on my new PC!

No, Its really not...

Its not an advertisment...
If it was an advertisment Id say..." Run Christmas sale now on... etc" but I didnt... (as far as I know there is no sale).

Thought that the point of this thread was to post messages about local PC shops and why we use/like them???
