Hi hudson, welcome to itsallpc
There are a few simple things you can try before we look at more serious issues
Make sure the correct recording device is selected
- Click Start, Control Panel (Setting, Control Panel for the classic start menu)
- Open Sounds and Audio Devices and click on the Audio tab. If you cannot see Sounds and Audio Devices, you’re probably in Category View. Change to Classic View on the left.
- Make sure that your default recording device matches the default playback device, as the primary hardware
Make sure the correct recording channel is selected
- Click Start, Run and enter sndvol32
- Select Options, Properties from the menu bar
- Check Recording from the Adjust volume for box and click Ok

- Make sure the Select box bellow Microphone is checked
If you’re using a head set microphone or a sensitive microphone and have microphone boost support, try disabling it.
- Open the volume dialog and select recording, as described above
- Select Options, Advanced Controls from the menu bar
- If an Advanced button appears bellow microphone, click on it
- Uncheck any boosting features.
