PC has started to switch itself off

Hi

All has been fine for 18 months, apart form the usual blue screen every now and again (IRQL is not equal to or less than....) which I can live with.

Anyhow, this week I installed a new wireless router and a netgear Wireless USB adaptor to the back of the machine (previously I had been using a plugged-in network card with small arial.

Performance is up by 5 fold - BUT, when I leave the PC for a few hours the screen goes dead and yet the computer fan is still chugging away. I have to reboot and then the machine restarts and off we go.

Any idea as to what the problem might be ? I am absolutely stuffed. I did build the PC myself, but am not a techie - I just followed the instructions.

Re: PC has started to switch itself off

This could actually be a software problem not a hardware problem. Try changing the power settings to leave the monitor on. make sure you have the screen saver turned on so after x amount of mins it goes to the screensaver. Could be that the powerdown on the monitor is working fine but when windows goes to boot the monitor back up there is a problem. By changing the setting to always on you should be able to see if this is the problem. If it is i would just do a systems retore or a full install whatever you feel is best. remember to back up Loz
