dvd writer

i am having a problem with my dvd writer when i open my software to burn a disc it says no drive attached.the software is record now.i have uninstalled the software and dvd writer and reinstalled them still the same i am on win xp.the drive can read but not write i have adjusted the registry and still the same .i have tryed system restore and still the same please help ???

I know this is kinda stupid, but, does the drive show up in My Computer? And also, is it showing in Device Manager?

What did you do in the registry :?

Just a thought

Go into my computer, right click the drive in question go to properties click on the recording tab at the top and make sure you have a tick in the box that says "ENABLE CD RECORDING ON THIS DRIVE"

Also make sure both sides of your IDE cable are pushed firmly into the back of your dvd drive and not just hard in one end, this is a easy mistake to make when working from just one side of the case.

Apart from going to tools and deleting my history - Are there any other places i should know of to delete my history ??
