win xp 'user' passwords
hi, i really hope someone is able to help me with this problem.
recently my laptop motherboard was fried and after much panic, i managed to rescue the harddrive and connect it to my desktop pc using a 2.5" HD caddy. for a few moments i was so happy i finally had access to the file i never backed up. the problem is though, i am being denied access to my files! on the original laptop system, i had a 'user' name and password which i had to enter each time i logged in. i have tried creating the same user name on my desktop (including same password) in the hope that i might be allowed access....still 'access denied' is there any way to access the user files that were created on the laptop's harddrive? many thanks in advance....i will be eternally grateful....i desperately need access to my work! mi2 Thread is old and locked - MidiMoto |

Re: win xp 'user' passwords
hello Mrtwo.. that'sone nasty problem. Ok the easiest way to solve this problem is to copy your files from your disk in DOS. this will bypass any windows passwords that you used to have on the disk.
Do you have a floppy drive? and a cd-rw? Does your bios see the second drive? Please also see.... http://www.itsallpc.co.uk/index.php/topic,79.0.html click the link and read about the UBCD...

Re: win xp 'user' passwords
Yeah i think going through DOS to access your files would be the easiest way of recovery. As long as your bios is seeing the second drive. you can copy them to floppy or CD. I read about ths UBCD and it can make a ram drive on your hard drive or you can access the files via one drive and copy them onto the first drive if you know the dos handles.. If not it has some type of DOS navigator on the disk so you can just transfer the files via the navigator and copy them on your main hard drive....
The UBCD loz was talking about uses Necromancer's DOS Navigatorテつ! 2.15テつ! andテつ! DOS Navigatorテつ! 4.9.0 so use either one of these navigators to copy for D driveテつ! >>>>> C Drive caddy |
