External Hard Drive

I am trying to purchase one of these but confused about what I need and where is the best place to get one from.

I want somewhere to back up all my PC pictures, music etc as I lost everything and never want it to happen again....(PC was reformatted and everything lost - friend did it!)

Anyway I have been looking and seen HDD, SATA, IDE and I am confused.

I just want somewhere to save everthing and ideally just plug and play

I have found a 500GB on Argos for £65 reduced from £100 (I get 10% off in Argos too as my cousin works there)

Does it look ok or is it a rubbish going to brake make?

Buy Maxtor Basics 500Gb External USB 3.5in Hard Drive. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

Its much bigger than I will ever need but the 160 of the same make is only £10 cheaper so for £10 more why not have lots more GB's

Hummm do I have to have it connected all the time? I only want to back up all my pics and music to it every few months - I dont plan to have it plugged in all the time just as and when I want to back up stuff - therefore it shouldnt get too hot should it as I will only have it on as long as it takes to move stuff over.

high street retailers charge crazy amounts for drives, these guys sell the most common and reliable drives around hard drives, i've ordered from them quite a few times.
