Red face help please guys

any suggestions guys,

I've recently been having trouble with my dvd writer not recognising blank dvd's or cd's benq dw1650. eventually after trying loads of different types i gave up and bought a new dvd writer Sony DVD +-R 18X AW-G170A. After installing software for dvd writer i tried some discs.
The Blank Cd's are recognised and the Blank DvD's are not.
As the dvd writer is brand new it is not that.
The Ide Cable is New With the Same spec as the previous cable 300v awc 105 oC FT1 so i'm NOT SURE.
Jumper set to Master.
Bios recognising the dvd writer.
New install of windows with services pack 2.
This is the 3rd dvd writer in 12 months and they have all had the same fault. which is the dvd writer side failing and i dont even burn that much.
I'm dredding it could be the motherboard hope not.
Any help or suggestions guys please.
As i've completely run out of idea's

Below Is my pc info if it helps.

Cheers.........................

Hi philly32

Reading your post you have 2 HDDs off IDE 1 Seagate Boot drive and Hitachi secondary have you disabled (allow indexing service) via HDD properties ? as indexing with twin HDDs you don't need as it will slow your system. Your Sony DVD/RW is off IDE 2, try this ---

IDE 1 = Hard drive C: (boot drive), set as "Master"
IDE 1 = Optical Drive, set as "Slave"
IDE 2 = Hard drive 2 set as "Master"

As far as i know the issue has not been resolved, in my present system i still find some blank Disks are just not recognised, my own remedy for this is to stick with a make that i know works with my system.

Indeed, there are sites which list particular discs compatible with certain DVD Writers
