IEEE 1394a 3-Port Host Adapter, please help

Hi......

i recently bought a digital mini dv camcorder...

i needed to buy a firewire interface to transfer my clips into my pc(IEEE 1394a 3-Port Host Adapter)....

i connected it all in, but nothing is happening, i know its definatly connected in....

nothing happend, so i connected the firewire cable into it and into my camcorder, still nothing( a DV symbol is supposed to come on my cam but nothing).....

i went on windows movie maker and pressed 'capture video' it says a video capturing device is not detected.......

i have Windows XP so it should work fine straight away without doing anything really ???

Re: IEEE 1394a 3-Port Host Adapter, please help

Three times out of five, this is because there is a button to press or a switch to flick on the cam that will enable device mode. Once out of five, it’s because the cam requires power (from the wall, or 1394 host) that it’s not getting.

Remaining obviousities are; broken firewire cable and defective 1394 host.
