Hi and welcome to the forum,

What browser are you using on the PC and can you describe the type of popup?

As in, does it appear when using the browser or does it appear normally?

Hi!

Its internet explorer 7 and the pop up appears when the computer has just been switched on and everything has loaded. The pop says the pc has a virus then leads to a website to buy.

The brower isn't open when it pops up.

I'm inclined to rule out spyware seeing as you have already checked for that so this might work:

Click Start and then click Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance. (If you can't see the Performance and Maintenance icon, you're probably using Classic View so switch to the other view.)
Click Administrative Tools.
Double-click Services
Double-click Messenger.

In the Startup type list, choose Disabled from the Startup type list in Messenger Properties.

Click Stop, and then click OK.

If that doesn't help post back and we'll see what else it might be!

It's not often we see a Mac user here as you can imagine. I use both Windows and OS X.
What type of Mac do you have?

How can you run IE if you don't have it installed??
Have you disabled popups in the preferences menu?

Cool, that's a nice setup. I have a black MacBook (my first), got it a few months back, couldn't resist the employee discount anymore!

It was too good to turn down! And the black is soooo nice.

Took a while to get used to the os but I prefer it over Windows now, probably cos I don't game much.
U always been a Mac user?

ok so back onto topic.Does it come and stay on your desktop? if it does then right click a piece of your desktop (not the popup) and click:
properties
desktop (tabs)
customize desktop
web (tab in new window)

on there it should have a list of sites.Ones ticked are the ones that show up on your desktop. If thats the problem then there should be
my current home page (unticked)
The popup(ticked)
if not then the popup wont be there.Try installing xoftspySE to see if it picks it up.You need to pay and register to remove but try manually removing the file with the location details it gives you

nathan out!
