Have just bought mcafee internet security 2007, alway had norton but i was getting fed up with the ccapp problem, it always has a problem when closing down. anyway just installed mcafee on my desktop and laptop and looks nice but it seems my internet is now pretty slow, i have toned down some of the things in mcafee such as phishing and parental controls but still pretty slow, is this a problem with mcafee or is there another problem?

I prefer norton.

I always get the ccap thing on my PC but never on tyhe laptop, which is weird, but I can put up with it.

yes thats weird, i never got it on my laptop either, no idea why.

honestly i avoid mcafee and norton products. they are bloated and are resource hogs. try kaspersky internet security. its much more user friendly, and if you don't like it you can actually uninstall it unlike the norton product. i have been running kaspersky for over 2 years and have yet to get a virus , i can count on one hand the number of pop ups i have got in the last year also.

That could be a bad thing - just because kaspersky hasn't found any viruses doesn't mean there arent any.

And I've never had a problem uninstalling norton before?

I suppose different software is preffered by different people with different machines. you have to make up your own mind.

You're right - Norton does use a lot of resources though.

ok, you got me on that one, i like kaspersky because its pretty ok, i'm shallow like that.

Got cha Midimoto =P This is actually the nastiest part for users to unintall Norton Anti Virus. That's why now Norton's site had developed uninstall tool for user who encounters problem during uninstall Norton products. More accurate to say, they are actually encourage users to uninstall via the tool rather than "Add or Remove Program". *No flame here*

i tried to reinstall windows on a machine that had norton on it. it would not let me reinstall untill i had fully removed it.

Norton Antivirus is okay, but Norton Internet Security can be described only with a string of four letter words.

I'd quite fond of Trend Micro PC-cillin. About 2 years ago me and a few colleagues did some side by side testing. Both Norton and Trend products managed to clean up every virus infection, however, Trend nearly always had their update out first. There have been a number of viruses over the years that have attacked and disabled Norton successfully because of this fact.

Norton is a little clunky. Symantec are exceptionally good at buying up good products and ruining them.

I like Norton because I don't want to do much configuring myself. It's running smoothly by itself.

Ive used Trend Micro for about 6 years. I like it because it does the job, straightforward to configure, gives good control and updates are fast behind the problem.
Norton can be a bi*** to uninstall. TIP, download trial Trend Micro Internet Security and install without first having uninstalled Norton. It uninstalls Norton perfectly and without any user interaction.
Then if you want to uninstall TM, just click the uninstall. Clean system

Currently I'm going with Norton on this one. Got Norton 360 on one of my machines and it shows some major improvements where hogging of system resources is concerned (which was always a problem in older nav and nis versions).

I personally hate norton as it`s to much hassle to unistall it and i just delete it bit by bit lol and now have some files of it i can`t delete, this was before i knew i had to go online to get the tool to unistall it. So now i use AVG it has helped me loads i`ve had bout 5 trojans so far and it has detected and deleted all of em.Anyway i just thouhgti`d let ya know of this link:

I`ve brought the full version, and i highly recommend that other people do,I had the kinda same prob as you i had a corrupt file and when i tried shutting down i`d get the small box window telling something about a .dll file and when i brought this and scanned my comp and fixed the corrupted etc files that .dll went away and i just shutdown without that box.
