Modem Lock

Hi All, Tai is still struggling, Browsing as I do on anything and everything, I close a window, as you do when another thought enters the head, and ... Wait a minute!!!... the window freezes..no close...no nothing...no prob`...click on big X again.... not closing...nothing...PANIC... PC HAS FROZEN UP! Thought I had better close down and reboot. No response. PC is on strike! Nothing is responding, click on everything........I reaches for Troubleshooting book, only to see another window open up in urgent flashes, It warns me that `Modem Lock Watchdog must be reactivated`. now the taskbar is filling with a line of modem lock icons!テつ! What the `....`, is this, nothing in my troubleshooting book, or my Windows Tips and Techniques bible. So sitting as I do, dumb struck.テつ! With the screen flashing away at me, demanding the reactivation of the modem lock, I have a flash too... of inspiration. If I carn`t switch down, and carn`t close the window, and clicking onto any button that says OK, is useless, I will restore to an earlier time. Easier said than done. It involved clicking the necessary buttons on the restore windows, between the flashes of the modem warning window, but I did it, after numerous goes at it. PHEW!!! PC working again!!! Anybody. What happened? I must go and rest and watch a quiet dvd... `The Edge` always relaxes me and gives me inspiration, especially the Bear. TAI.テつ!

Re: Modem Lock

Hi,... PC spec, Processor:1.27 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP, 128 kilobyte primary memory cache, 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache. Drives: 120.03 gigabytes useable hard drive capacity, Board: Gigabyte technology Co Ltd. I`m running Windows XP Professional, Ad-ware SE, and Spybot Search and Destroy installed and up to date, though not showing anything nasty. Have installed Crap Cleaner recently. No other Items installed or uninstalled recently. Virus intrusion as you suggest very likely, Could it recure, now that I`ve managed to restore to an earlier time, or is it out of the loop so to speak? Fault has not happened again since the restore. Thanx Tai.

Re: Modem Lock

Hi, Further to the system restore reply from Dave 2312uk, I read somewhere that the system restore can take up quite a lot of disc space. Would it be any use deleting the system restore for all but say the last couple of restore points, or in my case any and allテつ! テつ!previouse restore points!!! incase this possible virus is holed up there, and if so how are the restore points deleted. ??? :-\ `Boy!!! I feel as though I should be wearing my waders ..going into this stuff. :. And my head is buzzing. Thanx for your help Guys. Tai.
