Re: computer virus i thing
Hello kathy thanks for joining... Ok can you tell me what operating system you are using? Is it windows XP or something different..
To help us help you fix the problem we actually need to know what your son downloaded as an active X component should not cause this problem. Do you have a firewall and anti virus software on your PC? have you tried restarting your pc after the critical error... ? Speak to you soon Loz

Re: computer virus i thing
Sorry i didn't give enought information but i am really upset. The operating system is Windows Xp Professional. Yes i have a firewall that comes with Windows xp and I have an antivirus program called Norton antivirus. My son told me he downloaded active x, real player and another game called final fantasy 1. I heard from this site from the search button on the internet. I tried restarted my computer like 5 times and i always get the error message i supplied in the above message. I also tried to restart in the safe mode but i keep getting a black screen with lots of lines. Its like lines from DOS. Then my computer freezes again and i must restart. I hope this help.
Thanks Kathy |

Re: computer virus i thing
that looks like a gfx card driver error to me. i have had this blue screen numerous times before. i would reinstall your graphics card, and its driver, and see if htat helps.
pop in your Windows XP Pro CD and boot from that. Do a recovery from the CD.

Re: computer virus i thing
Ok Kathy first of all calm down and relax a little.. It’s a shock when your system crashes I know!ÂÂ! I agree with Eric the first thing that you must do is try to boot your computer from the windows recovery cd. Then let us know if it will boot..
When you start your computer is the screen clear? I mean the picture of the bios boot is fine no lines? As Eric has said put your Recovery CD in the CD drive and try to boot form that and tell us what happens.. The cd should lead you through the process! Could i ask what serach engine and what you typed to find us please thanks sorry to keep asking... :-*

Re: computer virus i thing
before you pay someone to fix it, reset your CMOS in BIOS.
Many times the problem is that simple to fix, once you find the correct jumper. Before you start, make sure your computer is unplugged and the power supply is switched off. Frequently, the reset CMOS jumper is labeled as, "jp1", "reset CMOS" and "JBAT1". If you can not tell which jumper it is, consult your motherboard manual. Simply move the shunt (a little removable piece) off pins 1-2 and move it to pins 2-3. By placing the shunt on pins 2-3, you are completing a circuit. This circuit erases all the settings you changed in CMOS and sets them back to factory defaults. Leave the pins shorted for about 10 seconds to be safe. Another method of resetting CMOS is removing the motherboard battery and then putting it back a few seconds later. The battery is a little metal circular object - simply pull back the tab and pop it out. Frequently, the reset CMOS jumper is near or next to the battery. Sometimes changing a setting improperly can cause a computer not to boot up, so if that's the problem, this remedy should cure it. Make sure that when you try to turn your computer back on that the jumper is not still set to Clear CMOS. then enter BIOS (usually screen tells you what key to press to do this, often Del key) Load Fail-Safe Defaults) try booting up agian. if you still get blue screen, try doing safe mode. what i would do is as quick as i could i would uninstall all gfx card drivers using the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. then reboot. tell me if this works.

Re: computer virus i thing
O.K let me try this again.
I took the computer apart and located the jumper CLRTC1 jumper. I removed it in pin 1-2 then placed it in 2-3 for about 15 seconds. Then put my computer back together. I got into the computer. I deleted all the games that the kids put on the computer, I did an ad-adware scan, I did a anti-virus scan, I deleted all the temporary internet files. Now i taught i was o.k. Then i connected to the internet and boom i got the same blue screen > but this time with the following warning in the message:DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_ Does anybody know what i can do now :-[ Kathy |

Re: computer virus i thing
Kathy the Cause
A driver tried to access an address that is pageable (or that is completely invalid) while the IRQL was too high. This bug check is usually caused by drivers that have used improper addresses. The driver is not for use with windows XP.. Do you have a CD -RW to back up your data? If so Go into your pc case and push all the hardware in your case give it a little wiggle and make sure it’s all nice and firm in its slots... Then do the jumper CLRTC1 and reset the bios once again... This should give you access back into your computer again. Now start backing up all of your documents... on to a writeable CD. Or if you have a partitioned hard drive E.G. C: drive and D: drive you can move all of your documents and important data to the D: drive/ partition. Once you have done this come back and we will talk about Formatting your Drive and installing windows again!

I know its going to cost me lots of money but i guess i should try to get it fix by other people. I live in a small town and they charge an arm and a leg to fix a computer lol.
