What websites do you recommend to buy laptops?

I am looking for an affordable, quality laptop that will last me for 4 years. Please specify the laptop you would recommend and why. Also, I'm on a budget so a laptop under $1000 would be nice. Remember, I'm also asking what websites you would recommend to buy quality laptops at a cheaper price. (Much like when you buy furniture from a warehouse) Thank you for your help! Thanks in Advance

Laptops

I've got an Acer Dual Athlon 64 17" laptop with 2 gigs ram and an 80 gig HD. Over here in the UK I went to Tesco to buy it. Came with Vista Home Premium installed. Sub £400 ($800) for the unit. Try Wallmart- it's the US's version to Tesco so I would have thought you'd get a good deal there. As for Future proofing a laptop? I'd suggest 3-4 years is about the lifespan of one at the moment- but this is for the install of all new (up-to-date) software. Get a second skin for it though and a decent case. You'll be thankful for that.

Almost any laptop will last you 4 years... Unless its an Acer.

What do you want the laptop to DO for that time period??

Umm.. By the way... I thought Walmart owned Asda.... Not Tesco... ?

Yup

Asda is owned by Walmart.

TBH acer for the money make pretty good laptops, I have used them many times, yes they are not as robust as many of the other branded laptops out there however, pound for pound they work out a good deal.

As you said though it really does depend on what you want the machine to do as would you if it was a desktop.

sounds like a bit of a wind up to me but I may be wrong.

does the OP have any idea at all what they want? Even preferred screen size would be a helpful start. Is it for business ? leisure,? Gaming ? is it going to be used mostly at home on an adaptor or on the move on batteries ?

Its a bit like going to a car forum and saying `recommend me a car '!....
