USB driver issues
Hi there my name is Charles and i'm a first time usr on this msg board. Depending on what kind of response i get and the knowledge of the people, i may come back for more help late rand help out myself. well i won't give my life story i'll get straigh tto the topic:
i'm working with two computers for a real estate company. Both PCs look like they were custom built, or built by a small unknown company, because there are no trademarks anywhere on it. The computer has 8 USB slots(2 in front 6 in back) and none of them work. when looking through the device manager to see if the drivers were properly installed, turns out the builder(whom we don't know or bother to remember) didn't install any USB drivers. all it shows is "PCI Device" in the USB area, and "USB controller." Both have a question mark on them and have no driver when i go into the properties for each device. I have tried clicking the reinstall button and the update driver button(dumb move i know). I dont' know much about USB drivers but i'll understand u if u talk to me in computer i speak it :P. sorry my message was so long, but if someone could please help me i would really appreciate the help. thanks again, Sir Charles |

Re: USB driver issues
Hello chazz6422 and welcome to ItsAllPC!
![]() Here's what I recommend: Find out what the motherboard chipset is and install the drivers for it. It is really hard to give you some fool proof advice because the USB drivers from system to system are different. I'm surprised windows wouldn't include the chipset's USB drivers. If the USB ports reside on an expansion card on the PCI bus, you'll obviously have to get the drivers for that instead, but the way you described it I'm leaning more toward chipset drivers. I can find the drivers for you if you find out what chipset the computer uses. There are many ways to find out what chipset the computer has. One easy way, if it happens to be an intel chipset, is this utility. Otherwise, you could have a look at the motherboard, or go into the device manager.

Re: USB driver issues
Hi there Charles, Welcome to ItsAllPC.
The only thing I can think of is taking the side pannel off the PC and looking at the USB device (Which should be PCI, attatched onto the motherboard) and seeing if you can find a Make and Model on there. Then search the internet for a driver. If you are using Windows XP, you shouldn't need a driver anyway, as it has its own built in USB Controller. Thats as far as my knowledge goes, you may have to wait for another member to reply. Hope this helps Tom *Edit. Read Zacks post. ^ ![]()

Re: USB driver issues
hey, i apologize for taking so long to reply to your replies :-p. Real Estate kept me busy and some other things wioth the church n stuff so i've been tired. But i'm back in the office now and i've looked inside. I couldn't find the name, but i believe it's an intel board. and the link the other guy sent me (sorry i can't remember the name) it just leads to an image. if you could send me the program again it would help a lot. I don't know the exact board name but i know it uses an intel pentium D.
***ALSO!! all the USBs are on the board itself.... the PCI card as a whole other animal. |

Re: USB driver issues
ok, when you say flat black chips... i hope you don't mean the processor itself because it's covered by a huge cooling fan (see attached). BUT!!! i looked at the board good and found the whole model n junkÂÂ! ;D. it's an "Intel Desktop Board" and it has this number right udner the name "D101GGC." wait... i've got it open in front of me and i see that the specific chip you are reffering to is also covered by a cooling device. but i hope what i've already given you helps... i've got my camera phone with me so i can take photos.

Re: USB driver issues
Since the USB device is intergrated into your motherboard, it's driver should have been installed when Windows XP was.
So provided the USB devicde is working correctly, then a fresh installation of Windows XP should cure the problem... I had a look for the USB driver for your motherboard on the Intel website, but to no avail.
