Computer keyboard

hiya, i was wondering if someone can help me. i have a toshiba laptop and its developed a problem recently, nothing major but everytime i press the backspace button it seems to enter in a different keyboard character so everytime that i press backspace, a letter like V appears instead! any help on reverting this key back to normal will be appreciated!
