Network printer

Hello!

A quick question if I may. Where do I find a network printer`s name? To put you in the picture, I have three computers conected to a hub. Connected to one of the computers there is printer. I have all the `share printer` boxes checked. When I try to install the printer on one of the other computers so that they can share the printer, I am asked for the pinters URL etc etc. I have tried to browse for the printer but the other two computers cannot find it. In the next box down it ask`s for the printers name i.e \\ server\printer.
In the third box it ask`s for the printers URL i.e //server/printers/myprinter/.printer.
As I am absolute idiot, I`m finding this a bit beyond me. Can anyone please explain in idiots language what this all means, and how I get the other computers in a position to use the printer.

Sorry, but there`s one in every village! ;D
Regards
Tich

Re: Network printer

Hi. Welcome to ItsAllPC.

It sounds like you have tried this, but lets walk through it again... I presume your running Windows XP on each of your computers...

When you try install the printer on the second & third computer, when it asks for the printer location, click browse. Go to My Network Places, and click on the computer that the printer is connected to. The name of the printer should then appear. Click it and click ok...

If this is not happening, try going on the your printer's manufacturer's website and downloading the latest software for the printer.

Hope this helps
Tom

Re: Network printer

Hello Tom!

Did as you suggested. There are no other computers listed in "My Network Places". That could be my problem. If so, and this is probably a daft question, how do I add the other computers to "Mt Network Places". It is XP.

Tich

Re: Network printer

Of course...I'm assuming that you've actually configured a network...

Have you?
