Dual Layer DVD Writer External for Sony Vaio Laptop

Hi,

I am after some advice. I have a Sony Vaio laptop model
pcg-fx505. It is running XP. 1.2 AMD Athlon processor.I am looking to buy an external dual layer DVD writer, but I am uncertain which to buy, what is compatible or not. I have looked at a couple and they say you must have a pentium 3 processor. The laptop has not got USB 2, as it is a little antiquated now, but it does have a firewire. Does this mean it is not compatible with an Athlon. Has any one got ant advice recommendations on which I should buy?

USB, as the acronym (Universal Serial Bus) suggests, is a universal standard. Any USB device can be used on any USB controller. Furthermore, USB2 devices can be connected to USB controllers at a reduced speed, and USB devices can be connected to USB2 controllers.

Everything has a "minimum system requirements" these days. It probably says Pentium III because USB was brought in about that time.
