control projector display separate from laptop display?

Does anyone know If I can control what is displayed on a projector, without the (connected laptop's) desktop showing on the projector? (Sony Vaio & Toshiba T90 / WinXPHome). Would I need a second computer or graphics card to be able to do it? ???

Dumb & confused, :-\

Thanx

Re: control projector display separate from laptop display?

Our projector's at school can "freeze" the screen from the projector, and you can do anything u want on the esktop without it being projected. This is a projector feature, and will probably not be able to do without a projector that supports it. But maybe someone else knows different.

Yes i agree with Eric here i believe that to disable the desktop you need a projector that allows this if you do not have this feature on the projector then i cannot see how you can do this even if you had a second video card you would still see the desktop.... Hope this helps! Loz

Re: control projector display separate from laptop display?

Thank you both for the thoughts. Having found nothing on the net about it I was coming around to the idea that it was going to be difficult or impossible! Thankfully the projector I will be using does have a freeze facility, so I shall have to sort out my programmme very carefully! :-\ Strange that the first obvious thing I wanted to be able to do with a projector, "can't" be done! Thanks again Phil.

P.S. This is the smartest pc forum I have used (I got a sensible response quickly) I shall be back (Not too sure if I will ever be able to actually help anyone, but you never know).
