motherboard compatible graphics card upgrade question

Hello guys

newbie here.....be warned, also a numpty. dont do tech speak so well.
bet you all thinking oh god, not another one! (dont blame you really)

anyways

i used to have MSI NX6800 GT-TD256 GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) graphics card attached to my ASUS A8V Rev.2 Deluxe (socket 939) Motherboard.

but this blew last year.

the tech specs im copying my receipt from when i bought my own built PC from overclockers in Oct 2004.

ive googled the same graphics card but it doesnt appear to be manufactured anymore.
However, i found this instead:
MSI GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

would this card fit my above Mobo OK?

thank you very much for your time

Just had a quick google and it looks, from the Asus website that your A8V board only supports an AGP graphics card. That card you've talked about is running on PCI-Express which would require you to upgrade your motherboard.

If you like nVidia then you might want to look at something like a GeForce 7300 GT 512MB such as this one from overclockers:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-094-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411&name=OcUK%20GeF orce%207300%20GT%20512MB%20DDR2%20HDTV/DVI%20(AGP)%20-%20Retail

Hope this helps you out a little bit

i took my friends graphics card out of his PC.
its an ASUS AGP card. but still no picture.
tried a flat screen and normal monitor. no signal
even unscrewed my own graphics card above and cleaned out dust.
still no joy.
my card makes all the right noises and the fan attached to it whirls rounbd nicely.
any other ideas what might be the problem???
