Seeking advise on hardware compatibility problem
Hi all,
Around one and the half year back, I have get someone to build a computer with the following hardware: Motherboard: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe-AM2 Processor: AMD AM2 A 5200+ Dual Core Graphic Card: ASUS EN8800GTS 640MP DDR3 RAM: Kingston DDR2-667 1.0GB x2 Harddisk: S/G 500G/16M SATA2 ST3500641AS Everything is doing fine until recently when the computer always hang. As each part has it indivdual warrenty, I send the computer to a service shop for repair, and according to the technician, each of the above-mentioned parts are working fine (tested with other components/parts). But, however, when all the parts are out together, the computer will get hanged. Thus, they diagnosed that perhaps the frequency changes thus affected the compatility. Will such case happen? Anyone have any experience on this, and what should be the best course of actions? Thanks |

Hi, welcome to ItsAllPC.
Where abouts / when does it "Hang"? Or is it random? If possible I would try re-install the operating system to see if this makes a difference, before attempting to change any frequency settings. That is the only thing I can think of if everything you listed is apparantly working fine.

Thanks Tom,
There are not fixed time when it hangs. But usually with an hour time. Once it hangs, when I re-boot the computer, it hangs even faster. Sometime even during booting phase. I have just re-format my computer recently, but it doesn't help. From the serviceman who are trying to repair my computer, he claims that when each component is fitted up with other parts, example, my motherboard with his graphic card, harddisk etc, it works perfectly. So is my harddisk, graphic card, etc. However, when all my parts are put together, the system will have problem. Could something like what i said be happening? Cuz, I would like to have some second opinion on this. Thanks. |

I don't see how it could be a frequency problem. But if it is, I'm not the person to ask since my knowledge of that kinda stuff is pretty low! - You may have to wait for someone else to stumble across this post.
Thinking about it, this could be an over-heating issue. Download and install Speedfan, and see what kind of temperatures it says you are getting. Keep the software running and the next time your computer hangs, see if the temperature is any higher.

Hi,
You say within an hour it normally hangs? Does the technician wait this long with the hardware connected?..or does he just see connect them up and says it works. I mean..it works perfectly fine for you until it hangs. Just a thought, as it does seem to me that it could be a hardware failure! |

The description of the timing between when it hangs, and the fact it hangs faster after a hang and reboot would tell me it could be a cooling problem.
Can you take the side off and touch the CPU heatsink when it hangs? Be careful because if it is a cooling problem the heatsink can become hot enough to burn you. If the heatsink it hot (like feels like it could burn you) then you most likely have a cooling problem and I would check all your fans and the seating of the heatsink. Of course you could just check the temperatures in the BIOS if your motherboard has such a feature, but personally I like touching it ![]() EDIT: doh, only just saw Tom has already suggested this. Anyway, give it a go ![]() |
