PCI Video Capture Card Trouble
Hi everyone,
I hoping one of you can help me out with my new Kworld XPert DVD Maker Video capture card install. The problem is my PC does not recognize that the card has been installed (i.e. no "new hardware found" message). My machine is a home built using an ABIT VA6 motherboard, PIII 800MHz processor and has 500MB RAM. There are two other PCI cards installed (3COM network card and a sound card, an ISA modem and an ELSA video card on the AGP. I've tryed going into the device manager to "manually" install the card and the driver install software that came with the card cannot find the hardware either. Anybody have any clues for me? Thanks! |

Re: PCI Video Capture Card Trouble
Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, I've tried that path with no luck. Windows cannot find the hardware. The funny thing is I was able to install the card in my other, even older machine, with no problems (this machine is a Gateway PII 250MHz with 156MB Ram). On this PC I was up and running (actually slogging along) in about 10 mins. I hope to get this sorted on the 800 MHz machine but for some reason it doesn't want to play. Is there some kind of tweak I am overlooking? |

Re: PCI Video Capture Card Trouble
I've examined the Device Manager, there is no listing of any component or device listed as "unknown" or that I recognize as my video capture card. There is one device with a "?" and I know that is for the sound card built into my motherboard that I've disabled (I have a Sound Blaster PCI card for that function). See attached screen shot.
This PC is a home built that was given to me by a friend. It had two existing PCI cards, 3COM Network adapter and the above mentioned Sound Blaster. There are five PCI slots and I have tried my new video card in two of the three open ones with no luck. The game port you see in the device mgr is built into the motherboard. Like I said above, Windows 2000 does not acknowledge any hardware changes, I've tried adding the drivers by adding an "Other Device" from the New Hardware wizard and I get a message "no PVR 883 card found". (The video capture card is a Kworld Model # VS L883). I've examined the BIOS parameters but found nothing that stands out (I admit to not knowing exactly what to look for, I just compared the setting to those in the PII PC I got the card to work in and found no differences). I think my next steps will be to remove the other PCI cards temporarily and try installing the new card in one of the two previously occupied slots. If that doesn't work, I may try updating the BIOS. (or just running it over with my car!) As you can tell, I am grabbing at straws here. I think I've covered all the fundamental, obvious troubleshooting steps. I think I need some more advanced suggestions since I don't have enough detailed knowledge of how this thing should be configured to know if I'm missing something. I am getting a little frustrated because I've spent way too much time messing with this thing (the dog is starving, the plants are dying and my kids have all grown up and gone to college... ).Thanks for your interest in my situation. Any more suggestions? |

Re: PCI Video Capture Card Trouble
You need to address that first warning before you take any other actions.
The listed Multimedia Audio Controller, you identify as your Integrated Sound Controller, should not be listed if you have disabled it in the BIOS. When disabled in the BIOS, an integrated device is detached from the PCI bus and is therefor not detectable by Windows. It is not uncommon in situations like this for device issues to prevent the detection of other devices. All conflicts and warnings need to be addressed before you can be completely sure of the problem. Note that in the "by group" viewing mode, this device would almost certainly be listed under the Unknown Devices group. When viewing by connection however (as in your attached screenshot), it is listed as attached to the PCI bus, which is accurate. Your best option is to go into the BIOS and confirm that your Integrated Audio Controller is disabled. If it's already definitely disabled, then the audio device you're seeing must be something else (unless your BIOS firmware is broken and requires an update, but this is highly improbable). If you cannot make it go away from the BIOS, attempt to locate a driver for it; it's even possible this is the audio component to the Video Capture card. Don't install it if it really is the integrated audio controller though, this could cause issues with your sound blaster. |

Another video capture card problem
I have a similar problem. I just purshased an EZWATCH pro 4 camera system. I put the video card in the computer and the system doesn't see it. There is no yellow question mark or any indication that the board is even in the system. I tried putting the card in before the software ( directions say load the softward first and then the card) and still nothing. I was thinking it is an addressing problem but no luck. Can anyone help?
