wtf kinda processor setup is this?

Well bulk trash day here, day where if you got a budyd with a truck and some free time, its always great to just go drive around and see what ppl throw out to the curb to be hauled off for trash. I had already found a working 27in tv WORKING, and some cabinet speakers that plug into the wall for their amps, yea awesome.

Well going down an alley we spotted from a street and bam, big server tower. no sides or front panel, or hdds or floppys, and cdroms, BUT it did have this massive looking processor. pentium 2 at like 266mhz, got it to boot once, more on that in a diff thread, mxx technology? anyone tell me where I can find more info on this kinda cpu setup? will be greatly appreciated, never seen this before.

It's a slot processor. I'm running one right now actually. What all do you want to know about them?

I doubt you can pick one of these old things in a store, but ebay should suffice. I'm sure it wouldn't be very expensive.

Re: wtf kinda processor setup is this?

Well. like said above eBay is a good place to pick one up. They are very cheap, because they are very slow. Mine is 400MHz, but I think you can get P3 slot processors upwards of 900MHz. Although I doubt thye are compatible with a P2 based computer.

Google them.

Re: wtf kinda processor setup is this?

Pentium II and Pentium III processors are as identical as Pentium 4 2.0 GHz and Pentium 4 2.0A GHz Processors.

However, there is a package difference. Early 66 MHz FSB Pentium IIs, such as that one, have SECC packages (Single Edged Connector Cartridge). Later model 100 MHz SECC2 (Single Edged Connector Cartridge 2) Pentium IIs (including Eric's), Pentium IIIs and Pentium III Xeons are all compatible with a motherboard that can support the ratio; usually by BIOS update. The best Processor in this package would be a Cascades/Pentium III Xeon 1 GHz / 256 kB L2 Cache. I believe the fastest SECC Pentium II is 333 MHz.

Anything faster than that would be in PPGA (Plastic Pin Grid Array) or FC-PGA (Flip-Chip Pin Grid Array)/370 package.

Edit: I didn't notice you had a 266 MHz model there, sorry.

Actually, that's an SECC2 Pentium II at 100 MHz FSB

I specifically meant SECC, which is 66 MHz.
