Re: Blinking power light

It depends, all computers have different troubleshooting lights. Get back to me with your Computer Brand and model number and I can tell you exactly what it is. And make sure to be a little more specific on which light it is and what color it is blinking

Re: Blinking power light

The computer is made by gateway. I do not know which model it is, it is pretty old, only 800Mhz. The light is the light that is in the center of the power button, a green light, that blinks.

The pc seems to be working normally, but the fact that this is blinking annoys me. What could be the reason?

TIA,

Jason

Re: Blinking power light

Did you ever notice if it was blinking since you got it? If I had to take a guess, since the computer is otherwise completely operational, I'd say the wire that is going to the Power LED is incorrectly connected to the HDD LED pins on the motherboard. That said, the light would flicker along with hard drive activity. It that what it does?

Otherwise it might just be that the LED has a bad connection or it is about to go out. If it is too annoying and you can't take it anymore, you might be able to unplug the wires from the motherboard and make the LED not work at all.

Re: Blinking power light

Very easy to fix I am assuming you are running a windows 98 since 800MHz struggles with XP. If so go to the start menu>>>settings>>>control panel>>>power options>>>go to the advanced tab>>>

In XP go to startmenu>>>control panel>>>power options>>>advanced tab>>>

Its been a while but If i remember correctly there is something like LED status or LED mode. Anyway it is set to blinking all you have to do is set it to solid and your problem is fixed. Gateways have this weird thing about settting up power to where you can make it blink or have it solid. Its stupid really but there you go

I dont remember exactly what it looks like because I havent changed that on a gateway in months but it is something like that, if you cant see it there look all over the whole power options window, its there i promise.

If all else fails there is an advanced power mode option when you are in the BIOS but I would rather not run you through that.

But anyway, theres nothing wrong with your computer, you just ended up in power save mode somehow.

Oh, I just realized, your power went out. Sometimes when a gateway looses power it automatically sets itself in that blinking status.

Re: Blinking power light

I went into control panel like you said, but the advanced tab in power controls does not say anything about blinking power light.

It is not a wiring issue, as the wiring has not changed. Just the power went out, and now the light blinks.

I might also mention, about a month ago, the power supply fried in this pc. I went to the goodwill computer store and bought a used one. Now I see, it is the new ps!! I just didn't notice the change when I set it up, but realized it later.

Thanks to all,

Viper
