microATX board in Power Mac G3 case

I don’t see why not,

Here some things you should know if you don’t already

You can put components of a computer system in anything, now with mini motherboards this has been made easier to do

If you are not sure it will fit/sit straight in the case without modding the case as you might not want to, you should ask the manufacturer as they should help you with any problems but like I said you can fit pc components any were

Like Madkad said it is possible but remember - when you want to fit a square in a round hole there will always be dangers and problems. Maybe the mounts will be in the wrong place and so touch the motherboard = Frying tonight! So I would think hard maybe it would be better to get your wallet out and buy a suitable case for your motherboard! Or do you want a pc to look like a Mac?
You will have to alter the case - place the mounts in a suitable space making sure that’s nothing is touching the motherboard. Make sure you leave room for ventilation and plan the space inside the case so that you know where everything will sit without being crammed in and don’t forget you will have wires make sure u have access to them and access to make changes without tight spaces Loz

Thanks Loz and madkad, and yes I do want a PC to look like a Mac. (: I know I'll need to relocate the standoffs, and the standard G3 Blue board is about mATX size. (has 4 expansion slots) So I won't need to do a load in the way of actually modifying the metal, just relocating standoffs and cutting an I/O shield if I don't want it to look kludgey from the back.

i have noticed you said that you will need to alter the standoff places this is fine but i realy would make sure the metal plate is in no way toutching the motherboard before you add any power or even just conect the psu

as i know what its like for this to happen and its a very un happy thing if your motherboard costs somthing like over £100 and it gets fryed

Just check twice there is no harm in that and try your best to make sure the stuff like the wiers are not toutching the CPU heat sink fan or even the heat sink keep them back

Ok, I'm not that new, that falls into cable organisation which I have done in builds. What I mean as to help is like the tools to use and stuff like that. BTW I am in the USA and I have decided my config:
Seasonic S12-380 ATX power supply
Abit KV-80 VIA K8M800 Micro ATX Motherboard
AMD Sempron 64 2600+ Socket 754

How much do you have to spend? One thing i would invest in is a grounding wrist band so you dont shock the motherboard with static when installing. People say it dosent matter but i did fry a board this way. I sparked a chip with some static teach me for being cocky! As for tools u can pick up everything you need at a computer fair.
You will need a soldering iron to replace the mounts where you need. Open the case and place the board close to the case then push a small marker through the mounting holes in the board and mark the case out. One you have done this you can then start to solder the mounts on to the case. You will also need some tin snips to cut the case where you need it cut and also some metal files to round off the sharp edges where you have cut the case. I suggest that you also think about masking these cuts with insulating tape. Stops you cutting yourself on them later :-)

Make sure you get solid solders on your mounts as you dont want them to break off. But remember solder is not the strongest of metals so welding the mounts into place would be better!
The most important thing is to plan the system and how it will all fit. Dont rush do one thing and check re check then move on to the next step. That way you can catch a mistake straight away and not end up correcting several at the end. Or maybe having to dismantle it all and start again! Nghtmare!

I cannot say this enough plan check the plan and then follow it! So many people do not plan rush into it put a screw in the wrong place let the motherboard touch some metal and rush to turn it on and fizz u get that lovely sickly smell of fried silicone! Hope this helps loz

LOL well the floppy drive you will not need

are you sure you going to be able to fit all that in one of them cases from what i can remember there not that big i might be wrong

i wouldnt worry about the standoffs just drill into the motherboard plate were you need to and put some small bolts on the back that should do it

tools needed yes a anti static rist band or anti static mat or even both but both not needed try not to were cloths that make alot of static as well

and what i use is a screw driver a little ratchit and tweasers you should get a jumper remover with the motherboard so thats it

With all that in one case about the size of a mATX one, I might run in to cooling probs but I can replace the fan. Anyway, since I didn't win the eBay auction for a case, this project will have to be placed on indefinite hold until I can get a case.

about £20-£30 they will come with all screws for mobo and with a led fan of the customers color choice which is Akasa also they have a sharkoon laser cut fan grill and they have all the wier loom for the on/off switch etc etc
