Gigabyte are pretty similar quality to ASUS. Like ASUS, Gigabyte also has a subsidiary ("Axper"), through which the most budget boards are sold. This way they can supply product at every market point and retain reasonably good reputation with the Gigabyte brand.
Only problem with Gigabyte I've noticed is the poor translations throughout the marketing material, boxes, manuals and BIOS. It's also not uncommon for them to mention features on their boxes and in manuals that are not available with that particular product (they were selling PCI Express motherboards with an "AGP Pin" retention mechanism for quite some time back in 2004).
ASUS always seems just that little bit better.
