I use Norton Internet Security and I am happy with it.

You get the regular Norton Anti Virus, a firewall and a few other modules that protect your PC from all the bad programs out there, spyware and adware included. You also get a spam filter, a program that targets phishing attempts and something called "privacy control" that prevents you from accidentally giving away your credit card info.

It's all designed for the basic user, easy to install, setup and use.
