Re: no sound from onboard or sound card... plz help!
[size=12px]Well... a couple things that I forgot to mention. The video card I have installed on this computer is actually from an older one, and I did not have the CD to install the drivers/ATI Catalyst for it. Also, I'm almost sure that I never used a downloaded executable to install the card's driver. I know what Catalyst is ( I have it on my other computer with a RAEON 9600xt), and I do not remember installing it. Furthermore, I do not have ATI Catalyst in my Program Files folder or the Control Panel, which, I presume, signifies that I indeed did not install it. Even though, the video card works fine and the DirectX Diagnostic Tool reports that I have the driver "ati2dvag.dll." Considering how I never installed ATI Catalyst, any thoughts of where that driver came from?
The auto installation of other hardware components are the same as the video card: I never installed drivers myself either with a CD or downloaded executable, but they still have drivers and work properly.
And regarding the sound card (which was the original problem), I performed a "cleansweep" of the drivers using instructions from the Creative Labs website, which is supposed to remove all of the files related to the sound card (removing from Control Panel, a CD application, and Device mangager). I couldn't perform one step, however, because I needed the Sound Blaster Installation CD, so maybe the driver files were not removed completely. I did this before uninstalling the ACPI System, and as I mentioned before, it auto re-installed the card. I will be getting a one of those CD's soon, though, and I'm going to try the "cleansweep" again.
