Re: tried the method
well i tried what you said syphus. i sort of just skipped the whole removing the drivers from control panel/device manager since you said the removal of the ACPI Compliant System will do all of that for me. the only program on the control panel that i uninstalled was the sound card driver that i downloaded. after i uninstalled the ACPI System, it turned out that windows installs a lot of the hardware automatically, even if i do close the new hardware dialogue boxes. the automatically installed hardware includes my video card, sound card, and ethernet card (all PCI devices), along with a variety of other devices. i'm not sure, but i think this might be because the sound and video cards are outdated. the sound card is a creative labs sound blaster live! (model CT4760) and the video is ATI RADEON 8500. so maybe windows has bulit-in default drivers for these product models. anyway, after windows auto installed my sound card, control panel is still greyed out. i also tried to install the onboard sound, but it gave me an error: Driver not found! Reboot system, and run the installer again. i did that, but it still gave me the same error. any suggestions? thanks again!
